Political violence in ancient India / Upinder Singh.--
Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 2017.
xvii, 598p.,25cm.
ISBN : 9780674975279.
303.60934 SIN 145990
This book argues that the idea of a nonviolent India is
an artificial twentieth-century construct deeply
influenced by Gandhi and Nehru. Ancient Indian history is
marked by considerable violence of various kinds, as is
the history of other parts of the world. This book looks
at the evolution of the theory and practice of kingship
and the attitudes towards political violence between c.
600 BCE and 600 CE by examining a vast array of texts,
inscriptions, artistic representations, and numismatic
and archaeological material. These include the ideas of
Buddhism and Jainism, the emperor Asoka, the Sanskrit
epics, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, the political
treatise, the Arthashastra, and the poetry of Kalidasa.
The book examines how the problem of the relationship
between kingship and violence was addressed in general as
well with reference to punishment, war and the forest.

China-India relations in the contemporary world :
dynamics of national interest and identity / Yang Lu.--
Abingdon: Routledge, 2017.
xii, 139p. , 24cm.
(Routledge advances in South Asian studies , 30).
ISBN : 9781138120204.
327.51054 YAN 146021
This book analyses the multifaceted and multi-layered
character of Sino-Indian relations since the beginning of
the 21st century in a period marked by cooperation and
competition. It draws analytical leverage from two core
concepts - national identity and national interest - to
form the basis of the research inquiry. The author argues
that the dynamics of national identity and national
interest play an important role in determining their
relations and shows how and why in the current
international structure, including a context of
accelerated globalization, their national identities as
rising power and emerging power coupled with national
interest of economic development have defined and
directed their international positions and foreign policy
making.

Pierre Wack was head of scenario planning at Royal Dutch
/ Shell Oil in London for just over ten years. He died in
1997. He was a pioneer of what we know today as scenario
planning - an alternative and complement to strategic
planning. Scenarios explore a variety of possible futures
for examining decisions in organizational planning. His
experiences with Eastern thought no doubt shaped his
ability to evolve the scenario method at Shell, and as a
result he was able to lead a team that foresaw the oil
crises of the 1970-s and 80-s.This book will cover the
basic context of his life timeline and attach it to the
development of his thinking about scenario planning over
the course of his career.
