1 Kaplan, Jerry
Artifcial intelligence : what everyone needs to know /
Jerry Kaplan.-- New York: Oxford University Press, 2016.
xvi, 165p. , 21cm.
ISBN : 9780190602390.

Over the coming decades, Artificial Intelligence will
profoundly impact the way we live, work, wage war, play,
seek a mate, educate our young, and care for our elderly.
It is likely to greatly increase our aggregate wealth,
but it will also upend our labor markets, reshuffle our
social order, and strain our private and public
institutions. Eventually it may alter how we see our
place in the universe, as machines pursue goals
independent of their creators and outperform us in
domains previously believed to be the sole dominion of
humans. Whether we regard them as conscious or unwitting,
revere them as a new form of life or dismiss them as mere
clever appliances, is beside the point. They are likely
to play an increasingly critical and intimate role in
many aspects of our lives.

An ethnographic study of the processes of agrarian change
in the Malwa region of central India, over the last 40
years. It argues that both techno-managerial ways of
understanding and evaluating agriculture, as well as
those which emphasise the lenses of caste, class and
gender, are inadequate in capturing the diverse processes
at work in shaping the lives of rural people.

employment challenges / Bindu Oberoi.-- New Delhi: Oxford

The textile industry is one of the oldest in the country,
going back several centuries. The industry experienced
recession from the mid-1960s to the 1980s. However, this
trend is reversed after the early 1990s when domestic
demand for textiles products as well as exports increased
substantially. What factors have contributed to the
growth of the industry? What kind of changes have
occurred in the structure of exports of the industry and
what are their implications? Has the growth of this
labour intensive industry generated adequate employment?
This book addresses such debates and examines the process
of growth of India’s textile industry, focusing on its
performance on the employment front since the 1980s.

examines the key Western traditions of thinking about and
being a consumer. Each chapter focuses on a different
consumer model and readers are invited to enter an
exciting analysis of contemporary consumerism. Updated
with new material, this Second Edition looks at the
impact of new technology on consumerism and the

With the British Rule coming to a close, India became
Independent in 1947. Along with becoming free India was
partitioned with Muslim majority areas becoming Pakistan
and Hindu majority areas becoming India or Hindustan.
With Calcutta and other parts of Bengal becoming drenched
in blood after Muslim League launched -Direct Action- for
demanding Pakistan in 1946, it seems Partition became
inevitable. Though Mahatma Gandhi and Congress Leaders,
who led the Freedom Struggle were opposed to Partition
till the end, at the last hour, for smooth and immediate
Transfer of Power, agreed for Partition. Jinnah-s
observations that the 2nd World War (1939- 45) proved to
be a blessing in disguise, tells in a way that the
various changes that came in the Indian Political scene
after the beginning of the 2nd World War paved the way
for the emergence of Pakistan.
