A popular uprising against "big government" led to the
ascendancy of a broad-based conservative movement. But
Mayer shows that a network of exceedingly wealthy people
with extreme libertarian views bankrolled a systematic,
step-by-step plan to fundamentally alter the American
political system. Their core beliefs-- that taxes are a
form of tyranny, that government oversight of business is
an assault on freedom-- are sincerely held. The chief
figures in the network are Charles and David Koch. Mayer
traces the trail of the billions of dollars spent by
their network, and provides vivid portraits of the
colorful figures behind the new American oligarchy.

What differentiates the companies that become part of the
fabric of our lives and remain responsive, no matter how
big they get from those that quickly fade? To find out,
Ammirati looks at 20 different companies in pairs, who
have achieved product-market fit at about the same point
in history with the same general target customer-one of
which has gone on to achieve real scale, while the other
languished. As his research reveals, just a handful of
choices-among them, who to partner with, how to finance
growth, and how to use data-make all the difference in
the world. With such intriguing examples as LinkedIn vs.
Spoke, Facebook vs. Friendster, and McDonald-s vs. White
Castle, Ammirati shows the secret of "the science of
growth" and how to cultivate it in any organization.

While other departments in an organization deal with
profits, sales growth, and strategic planning, Human
Resources (HR) is responsible for employee well-being,
engagement, and staff motivation. Even though it may not
be immediately obvious, the management of these duties
often requires a great deal of measurement and technical
skill. Predictive HR Analytics provides a clear and
accessible framework to understanding and learning to
work with HR analytics at an advanced level, using
examples of particular predictive models, such as
diversity analysis, predicting turnover, evaluating
interventions, and predicting performance. When dealing
with metrics, management information, and analytics, HR
practitioners rarely use any advanced statistical
techniques or go beyond describing the characteristics of
the workforce.

Choice. Power. Speed. Today-s leaders continually face
these forces. But with too many choices, too much power,
and too much speed, leaders often make decisions in a
heightened state of emotion (and drama). Hasty decisions
are often poor ones and in this climate there is no place
to hide. Privacy is a thing of the past, the days of
covering up or ignoring a problem are over. In today-s
transparent culture, the decision making of leaders is
more vulnerable then ever--and it is more critical than
ever to get it right. Marlene Chism-s No-Drama
Leadership introduces just the model the corporate world
needs. Using case studies, checklists, and examples from
various levels of hierarchy in leadership and from a
variety of industries, Chism introduces the mindset
shifts and practical skills needed to develop enlightened
leaders.

This book is a comprehensive introduction to the key
streams of modern historical thought and history-writing
in the West and in India. Focusing on major theoretical
perspectives and historical methods, it primarily
concerns itself with the emergence, growth, climax and
partial decline of modernity in historical thoughts and
writings, particularly in Europe and India. Tracing the
origins of the dominant traditions of history-writing to
the dawn of modernity in Europe, the author outlines the
global spread of historiography and provides an account
of the impact of colonial experiences and decolonization
on modern historiography in different parts of the world.
He emphasizes the changing patterns and traditions of
history writing in and the contestations between, Western
and non-Western perspectives-especially Indian-with their
internal contradictions and confrontations, external
associations and mutual influences over three centuries.

Old history new geography : bifurcating Andhra Pradesh /
Jairam Ramesh.-- New Delhi: Rupa Publications, 2016.
xvi, 242p. , 24cm.
ISBN : 9788129139634.

In November 1956, a unified Telugu-speaking state of
Andhra Pradesh came into being. In February 2014,
Parliament bifurcated it to create two Telugu-speaking
states: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This book provides
the context, text and subtext to the bifurcation, which
continues to be contentious and controversial. The author
makes an ideal commentator, given that he was a key
member of the group of ministers (GoM) set up by the
United Progressive Alliance government in October 2013 to
prepare the legislation for the bifurcation. For the next
seven months, he became the GoM-s prime mover and its
public face and was thus always in the crossfire as it
strove to balance competing claims and differing demands
to ensure a just and equitable outcome. Blending sharp
commentary and humour and drawing on his meticulously
maintained personal records, parliamentary debates and a
variety of thus far undisclosed primary sources, he
recounts this momentous event as it unfolded. He brings
to the Andhra bifurcation story the kind of authority and
authenticity only an insider can.
