1 Fidel, Raya
Human information interaction : an ecological approach to
information behavior / Raya Fidel.-- Cambridge: The MIT
Press, 2012.
xiv, 348p. 23cm.
ISBN : 9780262017008.
025.524 FID 136200
In this book, Raya Fidel proposes a research approach
that bridges the study of human information interaction
and the design of information systems: cognitive work
analysis (CWA). Developed by Jens Rasmussen and his
colleagues, CWA embraces complexity and provides a
conceptual framework and analytical tools that can
harness it to create design requirements. CWA offers an
ecological approach to design, analyzing the forces in
the environment that shape human interaction with
information. Fidel reviews research in HIB, focusing on
its contribution to systems design, and then presents the
CWA framework. She shows that CWA, with its ecological
approach, can be used to overcome design challenges and
lead to the development of effective systems.

Keith Kyle was "the epitome of the intellectual

In this, his posthumously published autobiography, he
takes the reader on a spectacular and exhilarating
journey through the political history of the later 20th
century, to the heart of world-shaking international
crises where great events, people and places come to
life. The clarity, expertise, enthusiasm and essential
modesty with which he wrote gave his international
audience the vital feeling of involvement and being
there. Here was a reporter -- and he claimed to be no
more -- of rare skill, intelligence, humanity and true
moral purpose.

The Imagination / Jean-Paul Sartre.-- London: Routledge,
2012.
xlix, 183p. 19cm.
ISBN : 9780415776196.
153.3 SAR 136186
The Imagination is Sartre-s first full philosophical
work, presenting some of the basic arguments concerning
phenomenology, consciousness and intentionality that were
to later appear in his master works and be so influential
in the course of twentieth-century philosophy.
Imagination does not involve the perception of -mental
images- in any literal sense, Sartre argues, yet reveals
some of the fundamental capacities of consciousness.
Sartre argues that the -classical conception- is
fundamentally flawed because it begins by conceiving of
the imagination as being like perception and then seeks,
in vain, to re-establish the difference between the two.
Sartre concludes with an important chapter on Husserl-s
theory of the imagination which, despite sharing the
flaws of earlier approaches, signals a new
phenomenological way forward in understanding the
imagination.

context in an accessible fashion, allowing students to
understand the historical context in which these core
issues have developed. The book is organised thematically
around the key issues in international relations such as
war, peace, sovereignty, identity, empire and
international organisations. Each chapter provides an
overview of the main historical context, theories and

essential, growth for a turnaround of sub-Saharan Africa.
The fifth edition of the text, written by a scholar of
developing countries, is replete with real-world examples

More than 630 million Chinese have escaped poverty since
the 1980s, reducing the fraction remaining from 82 to 10
percent of the population. This astonishing decline in
poverty, the largest in history, coincided with the rapid
growth of a private enterprise economy. Close-knit groups
of like-minded people participated in the emergence of
private enterprise by offering financing and establishing
reliable business norms. This rapidly growing private
enterprise economy diffused throughout the coastal
regions of China. Only after this fledgling economy
emerged as a dynamic engine of economic growth, wealth
creation, and manufacturing jobs did the political elite
legitimize it as a way to jump-start China-s market
society. Today, this private enterprise economy is one of
the greatest success stories in the history of
capitalism.

and Scott Burns document our six-decade, off-balance-
sheet, unsustainable financing scheme. They explain how
we have balanced our longer lives on the backs of our
(relatively few) children. At the same time, we-ve been
on a consumption spree, saving and investing less than
nothing. And that-s not to mention the evisceration of
the middle class and a financial system that has proven
it can-t be trusted. Kotlikoff and Burns outline
grassroots strategies for saving ourselves--and
especially our children--from what could be a truly
catastrophic financial collapse.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams is the first extensive look
at the ways governments have supported entrepreneurs and
venture capitalists across decades and continents. Josh
Lerner, one of the foremost experts in the field,
provides valuable insights into why some public
initiatives work while others are hobbled by pitfalls,
and he offers suggestions for how public ventures should
be implemented in the future. Discussing the complex
history of Silicon Valley and other pioneering centers of
venture capital, Lerner uncovers the extent of government
influence in prompting growth. Lerner explains why
governments cannot dictate how venture markets evolve,
and why they must balance their positions as catalysts
with an awareness of their limited ability to stimulate
the entrepreneurial sector.

For a nation that has one of the highest growth rates in

Sixty years after Independence, India accounts for around
36 per cent of the world’s poor. The deepening fault
lines between the haves and the have-nots have given rise
to skewed development and widespread discontent. Instead,
he proposes a radical new paradigm for development that
delinks consumption from quality of life while
strengthening the natural environment in the process.

Modern macroeconomics suffers from an unclear link
between short-term Keynesian analysis and long-term
growth modeling. This book presents a new link between
monetary analysis and growth modeling in open economies.
Structural change, innovations and growth are considered
from a new perspective. With respect to economic policy -
in particular innovation policy - the analysis implies
major changes, concerning both EU countries and other
leading OECD economies.

industrial and economic policy. The writings begin in the
early 1960s and end in 1984-at the cusp when India-s
economic policies and political fabric were being

to how enterprises function and the dynamics of their

Are their decision-making processes founded upon a set of
performance measurements that were accurately designed
and systematically elaborated? The above questions are
the focus of this book, as is the following premise:
enterprises need a system to measure their critical
performances so they can be managed effectively,
metaphorically speaking, enterprises need a management
dashboard to serve as a navigational aid. A dashboard to

Logistics is an idea considered to have transformed from
the military-s need to supply them selves as they moved
from their base to a forward position. In ancient Greek,
Roman and Byzantine empires, there were military officers
with the title Logistikas who were responsible for
financial and supply distribution matters. The Oxford
English dictionary defines logistics as: The branch of
military science have to do with procuring, maintaining
and transporting material, personnel and facilities.
Another dictionary definition is: the time related
positioning of resources. As such, logistics is commonly
seen as a branch of engineering which creates people
systems rather than machine systems.

Crime films have, since the earliest days of cinema, been
popular with audiences, industry and critics alike and
encompassed a diverse range of subjects, styles and
themes. The genre provides a range of pleasures for the
spectator, from taking on the role of the detective in
the pursuit of clues in the twhodunitt, to the more
illicit thrills of identification with an anti hero. In
the many incarnations of the crime film such as the
gangster, film noir, political and detective thrillers,
the genre explores the anxieties of different historical
moments.

The South Asian Sensibility: A Himal Reader is a
collection of some of the best articles published over
the past 25 years in Himal Soutasian, South Asia s first
and foremost regional news and analysis magazine. The
essays are fine examples of long-form journalism, a form
that Himal has pioneered in South Asia. Intended to mark
the 25th anniversary of the magazine, the book argues for
a regional sensibility when looking at issues in the
subcontinent. The effort, throughout, is to look at
issues from a humanist and progressive viewpoint with a
strong emphasis on human rights.
